cost of therapy at held well

  • the cost is $150 per session, which are 50 minutes long. the fee for therapy is due the day of your appointment. insurance is not accepted although superbills are available upon request. client must be permanently living in Washington state AND be located in WA at the time of appointments.

I currently hold a 24 hour cancellation policy.

  • I do not accept insurance.

choosing not to accept insurance enables me to move away from the medical model, which frequently addresses symptoms rather than delving into the deeper understanding of genuine healing processes.

there are many reasons why therapists choose to not take insurance. NPR has an excellent piece about this subject, listen for free here. also important to note, in order to submit claims to your insurance provider, it is necessary to receive a mental health diagnosis, as outlined by the medical model.

there is a lot to say about the medical model and its connection to white supremacy, but most important to this conversation: mental health diagnoses may unintentionally pathologize clients. while a diagnosis can play a constructive role in shaping a treatment strategy and exploring evidence-based approaches for relief and personal development, it can also present limitations and restrictions.

  • isn’t having an out-of-pocket/no insurance model inequitable?
    yes and no.

not taking insurance can contribute to access issues, however if this creates an access issue for you, I would be happy to refer you to trusted organizations and providers who do take insurance.

by not taking insurance, it allows me to provide therapy without aligning with the medical model which focuses on treating symptoms. further, this is a more sustainable model for providers due to insurance reimbursement rates which can contribute to undervaluing therapists by paying too little, which can contribute to burnout.

there.
are.
feelings.
you haven’t felt yet.
give them time.
they are almost here.

schedule a free consult visit.

when Held Well Counseling has openings, there will be an option to book a 2o minute phone call with Madeleine.

what is a consult visit and why do you do it?
not every therapist will fit with every person. A consult phone call will allow a prospective client to ask questions and get a sense of what working with Madeleine might be like. from Madeleine’s side of things, this allows curious space to make sure that the clients they are working with are aligned with her specialties. if it is not a good fit, for whatever reason, Madeleine will provide a referral to another provider or organization.
consult phone calls are typically done on Wednesdays. please choose your preferred date and Madeleine will reach out with a morning or afternoon option to schedule the phone call.

next steps..

if we decide to set up the first therapy appointment I will send you access to the patient portal, which will have paperwork to complete online before our first session.

appointments are 50 minutes long and will be done over telehealth through the patient portal.

I recommend planning to meet every week as my schedule allows* and ask for a commitment to meet a minimum of 2x monthly as we begin to work together. once we have had 6-8 sessions we can reevaluate where you’re at and what you feel is helpful based on the progress that you’ve made. in my own therapy journey, I have had seasons of meeting weekly, bi-weekly, and even monthly or quarterly check-ins as more of a “maintenance” schedule.

*Please note that I currently only have availability on Sundays. Prospective clients should also know that due to seeking a sustainable work/life balance, I will not be available at least 1 Sunday per month and in the summer will be unavailable 2 Sundays per month.
